Oscar’s Best and Worst Dressed

Monday, February 28, 2011 | COLUMNS: Around Town, Campaigns, current affairs, events, film, news

IStock_000000067375Medium Last night, Hollywood dazzled us yet again at the 83rd Academy Awards. And while the ceremony itself was as glamorous as any in recent history, the red carpet lead-up left us longing for more. This year, more stars chose to play it safe than to take wild wardrobe chances, much to our chagrin. Even the notoriously style impaired (i.e. Helen Bonham Carter) looked relatively tame by past award show standards. To be sure, the star-studded event did offer a few gems, but for those of us hoping for a runaway hit look or a fashion disaster, the view was pretty bleak.

Shutterstock_2993612 Women like to have soft, clean, smooth skin, but what about the guys? The world of skin creams and facials may not seem rough, tough and manly, but c’mon, dudes. Skin is skin, and males have just as many skin threats and problems as we ladies do. There are skincare lines geared toward men, but it can be awkward and confusing to pick the right products. My husband will complain about skin issues and potential aging to me, and I’ll say “Well, maybe you should use this,” as I hand him one of my moisturizers, cleansers or serums.  Well, gentlemen, I’m going to do the same for you, because even macho men should have great skin!

Friday, February 18, 2011 | COLUMNS: Things We Love, Tips & How-Tos, application tips, product highlights

Shutterstock_2081862 We’re hesitant to recommend the use of waterproof mascara, as it tends to be damaging to the lashes, drying them out, while also encouraging wrinkles by tugging at the lids. It’s okay for rare, special occasions, but in general, you can get the same effect with far less hassle and damage using a water resistant mascara instead.

Best Eye Shadow for Sensitive Skin

Tuesday, February 15, 2011 | COLUMNS: Things We Love, product highlights

RealSimple_Pur_CoverFeb11_web For those with sensitive skin, finding the right eye shadow can be a challenge. In addition to finding the right color for a particular mood or look, sensitive skin types must use extra caution to avoid aggravating any skin sensitivities or allergies to certain ingredients. Eye shadows with talc, alcohol or petroleum oils can be particularly problematic for sensitive skin, as these ingredients can clog pores and cause further irritation. Fortunately, Pür Minerals eye shadows are free of these and other common irritants. In fact, Pür’s eye shadows are so gentle, Real Simple magazine named our Perfect Fit Eye Trios the Best Eye Shadow for Sensitive Skin in their March 2011 beauty guide.
