I absolutely love spicy food! It all started when I was working for a Cajun restaurant during college. I just couldn’t get enough of the tingly heat that jambalaya, gumbo and those sinful shrimp and grits had to offer. My spicy love affair continues to this day with Thai curry dishes, hot salsas, sushi with wasabi, oysters covered with horseradish, and of course, I add hot sauce to pretty much anything. If you can take the heat, hot peppers, curry powders and horseradish can inspire great recipes. These natural hot shots can add zing and zest to your diet, and they are also a great way to spice-up your meal planning!

So, I don’t know how everybody across the US is coping with allergy season, but here in Atlanta the pollen is out of control! We’ve had the rainiest winter I’ve ever seen, and as a result,
spring has most definitely sprung, flinging yellow dust all over my cat, my car and my face. As I write today, I am staring out the window I can see from my desk, just hoping for rain to wash this mustard monstrosity away.Until then, we have to deal with all the nasty symptoms of seasonal allergies, including my focus point of the day, eye irritation.

Last week marked the first time this year that the temperature in Atlanta hit the 80 mark for more than two days in a row. To say that the respite from the cold and rain was a welcomed relief would be an understatement. Within the first few sun-soaked hours, downtown streets and parks swelled to capacity, breaking an unseasonably long bout of cabin fever for a Sun Belt city. As I prepared to join my fellow sun chasers, it hit me that I was looking a bit pale. Alright, really pale. Something had to be done.

Spring is just around the corner, and summer will be here before we know it. I definitely let my hair get too long and out of control during the last few months, so I recently got a super fresh, springtime trim. I told Joy, my fabulous hair stylist “Chop it. Get rid of it. Hair must fly because it’s driving me bonkers!” I’ve worn varying lengths of short hair in the past, so this did not faze Joy at all.

While all of us long for a flawless finish to some degree, for those with oily skin, the path to perfection is often fraught with more pitfalls than most. The result of overactive sebaceous glands, oily skin produces more sebum—or natural oil—than normal. As a result, the skin frequently appears shiny, making makeup application difficult. Against this slicker surface, non-mineral makeup often struggles to adhere, and where it does, it runs the risk of clogging pores and causing breakouts.
