Like millions around the world, last night’s Olympic gymnastics event had us glued to the TV. All five members of Team USA looked flawless as they swung, spun and soared through each routine, taking home the gold for the first time since the 1996 games here in Atlanta. That team, dubbed the Magnificent Seven, included such superstars as Dominique Dawes, Shannon Miller and Kerri Strug, who vaulted for gold on a sprained ankle. Determined not to be outdone, Jordyn Wieber, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Kyla Ross and McKayla Maroney each demonstrated a competitiveness that earned them the title, “the fierce five”.
