Does your ipod need a summer refresher? These songs from the past year are sure to do the trick. From big names to rising stars—here are the hottest sounds of summer 2013.
Natalie Maines (from “Mother”)
Her cover of Eddie Vedder’s “Without You” is fantastic. Her version of Patti Griffin’s “Silver Bell” is scathing. I love a feisty rock chick.
These guys are like a modern day Jackson Browne. Their new album “From A Window Seat” is perfect for a warm summer night.
Fitz and the Tantrums
A super fun party band from LA. Think of them as a less campy B52s.
I dare you to not want to dance to “Get Lucky”. This WILL be the biggest song of the summer.
Mumford & Sons and the Lumineers are just trying to copy the Avett’s. These guys just get better with age.
What more can you say? “Suit and Tie” is a masterpiece. How can you not be in a good mood after hearing it?
She has a unique voice and is just starting out. I love her gritty edge and look.
In the UK, she’s like the new Adele. If she comes to your city this summer, see her in a small venue while you still can.
He may look and act weird, but you can’t deny his talent. “Blunderbuss” was my favorite album last year.
English singer songwriter with a voice and vibe that will remind you of Van Morrison. Minus the crankiness.
There’s something heartbreaking about this Irish singer-songwriter’s “Love, Don’t Leave Me Waiting”, but it’s so sad it’s great.
