The Look: Spice up this year’s look with a natural look during the day and a smoky look for those nighttime masquerades. Pür’s All That Smolders (link no longer available) eye pencil collection offers five fabulous shades built for all day wearability. Don’t forget: for knockout lashes that will spring right through your mask, Big Blink Extreme Mascara with Argan Oil is sure to do the trick.
The Drink: King Cake is a must have at any Mardi Gras celebration. You can easily turn this sweet treat into fun jelly shots with cake-flavored vodka, lemonade, condensed milk and unflavored gelatin powder. Here’s how:
Step 1: Add the unflavored gelatin to 1 ¾ cup prepared lemonade, and warm over low heat until the gelatin has dissolved (about 5 minutes).
Step 2: Remove from heat, and stir in 1 ¼ cup cake-flavored vodka and 2 tsp sweetened condensed milk.
Step 3: Divide mixture into three bowls. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl to create the three Mardi Gras colors: purple, green and yellow.
Step 4: Pour about 1 tbsp of purple gelatin into each shot glass, and refrigerate for about 20 minutes. Once purple layer has set (but is still sticky), add a 1 tbsp layer of yellow gelatin and refrigerate for another 20 minutes. Repeat with green gelatin on top.
Optional: Rim shot glasses with purple, green and yellow sugar sprinkles for a sweet and festive treat!
