Host a Winning Football Party

Thursday, January 31, 2013 | Party Time

The big game is just three days away. But never fear—there’s still ample time to pull off the ultimate football party! Follow this simple four-step checklist, and you and your guests will be sitting pretty by kickoff. No sweat.

1)   Party Space and Seating

Whatever the setting, the big game is always the star. So, make sure you have enough comfortable seating for friends and family to enjoy the action, and you’ll be one step closer to executing the perfect party.

2)    Decorations

Decorate your home with your favorite team’s colors (or combine both teams’ colors if you don’t have a favorite). Balloons and streamers keep things simple. Astroturf coasters and pots of wheat grass accessorized with football figurines are also a cute addition.

3)    Menu

Upgrade traditional tailgate fare for healthier—and tastier—finger food versions. Try buffalo-chicken nuggets, butternut squash pizza, black bean and corn salsa, and pigs in a blanket. Satisfy your sweet tooth with marshmallow popcorn bars. Ditch the chips and step up your snack game with a baked potato bar with a variety of toppings, like chopped red onion, salsa, grated cheddar cheese, jalapeños and low-fat sour cream.

4)    Entertainment

Organize a gridiron party game. The most popular is the square grid office pool. This is a 10 x 10 grid where each square is sold for a certain dollar amount. Numbers are randomly drawn to represent the score of the game.
