Our Favorite Fall 2012 Trends

Friday, September 21, 2012 | Things We Love

Tomorrow marks the official first day of fall. And while we’re looking forward to the cooler weather and the changing colors of the season, what we’re most excited about is the fashion! While some styles are enjoying a second life (tuxedo blazers and military jackets aren’t going away anytime soon), others are mixing things up. Here are a few to keep on your radar.

VSmidiskirtThe Patterned Midi

What we love most about this look is its versatility. You can wear it with flats in the day or ankle boots at night. And while the midi itself is nothing new, this season, it gets a vintage makeover—with retro prints and textured patterns, like this cable knit skirt from Victoria’s Secret ($49.50). (Spoiler alert: if you think the vintage look is big now, just wait to see what spring has in store.)

Gold on Black

Fall is all about bold contrast, so pairing dark, matte shades with shimmering accents comes as a bit of a no-brainer. However, this season, look for even more attention to detail, as designers work in gilded filigrees and intricate metallic patterns into classic black pieces. Check out Dolce & Gabbana’s Renaissance-inspired fall line to see what we mean.

PixiebikerjacketContrasting Biker Jackets

Biker jackets were big in 2011, so this trend is definitely enjoying some extended play. However, 2012 adds a new twist to the story: contrasting fabric sleeves. What screamed bad girl back then now shows its smarter, more sophisticated side—without giving up an ounce of attitude. Be on the lookout for two-toned, multi-textured “moto” jackets like this one from Pixie Market ($70).
