Want longer, shinier hair? Get to the root of the problem. Many of us women have tried nearly every hair product on the market, yet we still are unhappy with the appearance of our hair. It’s either too dry, too flat or just seems to fall limp. What if we’ve been treating the wrong problem all along? According to dermatologist Jeanine Downie, “iron deficiency lowers the amount of oxygen-carrying hemoglobin delivered to the scalp, which can lead to weakened follicles, damaged hair, and, eventually loss.” Who knew that what’s in your diet could be so crucial to your hair’s appearance?
An intake of foods high in protein, omega 3 fatty acids and iron is essential to your scalp’s health. Another way to encourage a healthy-looking head of hair is by simply massaging with your fingertips to boost circulation. The blood flow to your scalp actually provides it with nutrients that enhance your hair follicles. Massage the scalp for at least 30 seconds when washing. To avoid dryness, try washing no more than once a day and consider a hydrating, sulfate-free shampoo.
