2008 Fall Boots Guide
The onset of fall is the unofficial signal for fashionistas everywhere to break out their boots. This season, designers are putting a trendy spin on this cool weather staple and giving us a plethora of looks to choose from. Leather and suede, hardware and heels, zippers and lace-ups—the possibilities are endless, so find the boot that’s right for you and kick around town in style.
Sleek and simple or adorned with straps, buckles and chains, knee-high riding boots and motorcycle boots are all the rage this fall. Pair them with tights and a flowing dress, or wear over your favorite skinny jeans for a look that’s both classic and on trend.
Melissa’s Pick: Lauren by Ralph Lauren “May” Leather Riding Boot. These equestrian-style boots are chic and wearable with a small, stacked heel and gold-tone hardware. At $198, they are by far the best value I’ve seen this season for a designer boot.
For a perfect transition from the office to the evening, choose a boot with a bit of a heel. While stiletto heels are the ultimate in sexy fall footwear, a chunky heel offers more stability and can elongate shorter legs.
Melissa’s Pick: “Zarajoe” by Nine West. I love the leather-suede combination and the fact that the 4’’ heel isn’t too chunky or too skinny. The slight slouch is super-stylish, but looks more refined in black than brown.
Although this trendy style is not always the most flattering for every body type—as it tends to make the calves look bigger—ankle boots can provide the perfect accent to a fall wardrobe when worn right. Booties with fold-down collars and lace-up oxfords tend to be more forgiving.
Melissa’s Pick: MAXSTUDIO “Hooper” Bootie. Available in Chestnut or Black Italian leather, these sophisticated kicks would look fabulous with a pair of tailored pants. The ruched detailing around the instep not only looks great, but gives this boot points for comfort.
