Groundhog Predicts a Colorful Spring with Spunk

Thursday, February 03, 2011 | Around Town, current affairs, fashion, Groundhog Day, spring

In case you didn’t remember, yesterday was Groundhog Day. In Georgia, both of our furry foreseers, Gus and General Beauregard Lee, predicted an early spring, and I’m putting faith in them. Last weekend, we had a wonderful sneak peek at spring weather, with plenty of sunshine and highs in the low to mid 60s. It was delightful, and now I’m anxiously awaiting the new season!

IStock_000000698937Large After getting a brief sampling of spring climate, I wondered what the fashion world has in store for us in the coming months. Then to answer my questions came Groundhog Day. That fashion-forward critter came out of his burrow and said “Um, I don’t think so.” Rather than running back into his hole, he went shopping for a new spring wardrobe.  If I could put words to this year’s spring lineup, I would call it “In your face, winter!”

It’s time to ditch winter drab and embrace springtime fab, with bright colors, bold accessories and Shutterstock_5510728 exquisite bags and shoes.  No color is the wrong color. Feel free to mix and match. Oranges, blues,  pinks, yellows and greens look cheery yet sophisticated; even neutral khakis and grays, paired with tribal jewelry and accents, step it up with a worldly wow-factor.

Stripes? Solids? Prints? They are all a go. And be sure to finish the look with a fabulous purse, whether it’s big or small, striped, sequined, leather or weaved. Studs, leather and dark lace are also getting their moment in the sun this spring, adding some spunk and funk to an otherwise sweet and prim lineup. Don’t hesitate to be courageous and colorful! In your face, winter! Make way for spring!
