Shutterstock_3151462 Last night marked the 17th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. And while the ceremony itself offered few surprises (The King’s Speech took Best Picture and Actor, Natalie Portman received Best Actress), the view from the red carpet left us both bewitched and bewildered. With award season in high gear, Hollywood’s brightest stars took center stage once more with bold statements that paid in spades and some that ended in fashion disaster. Here are our top picks for this year’s best and worst dressed.

Best Dressed
Black Swan costar Mila Kunis took a bold chance with a splashy, strapless Alexander McQueen dress, earning her our fashion top spot. Equally elegant and edgy with its abstract red print, it not only complemented the sultry starlet’s dark features and shapely form perfectly, but also made her stand out from the rest of the red carpet crowd. Noteworthy runner-ups include Glee’s Lea Michele, in a plunging Oscar de la Renta metallic gown, and Mad Men’s January Jones, whose black and gold embroidered Carolina Herrera gown captured the glamour of a bygone era.

Worst Dressed
Winter’s Bone star Jennifer Lawrence caught our eye for all the wrong reasons. Clad in a retina-burning, hot pink Oscar de la Renta belted gown, the leading actress nominee looked downright uncomfortable in the all-too-strappy color catastrophe. Nipping at her heels, Winona Ryder drew derision across the board from what others aptly called a “prom dress gone bad.” With its jagged, layered ruffles, the strapless white gown looked like an upturned pinecone from the waist down—a far cry from Ryder’s considerably more flattering ensembles of yore.
